Top Duties and Qualifications:

A Teacher or Tutor is responsible for providing students with individualized assistance to help them leave and retain new concepts and complete classwork or homework assignments. Their duties include studying lesson plans, notes, and reviewing textbooks to prepare for a lesson, assigning additional projects and answering student's questions about a specific or research topic.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Teachers and Tutors are responsible for leading one-on-one or small group lessons that cater to the needs and goals of their students. They often have the following other responsibilities:

  1. Reviewing classroom, homework, or curricula topics and assignments.
  2. Assisting students with homework, class and special projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasks.
  3. Working with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom.
  4. Teaching skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to answering test questions.
  5. Demonstrating academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments, including research and writing tactics.
  6. Developing and distributing teaching materials to supplement classroom lessons, including study guides, learning platforms and educational websites for practice.
  7. Conducting practice tests based on assignment and note to track progress, identify areas of improvement and help set goals for exam preparation.
  8. Providing students positive and constructive feedback to ensure academic success.
  9. Offering feedback on progress to students' parents, staff, program coordinator, and executive director where appropriate.


  1. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  2. Five (5) years' experience as a professional teacher or tutor.


  1. After-school teachers/tutors have the opportunity to assist students on one-on-one or small group basis inside a learning and academic environment.
  2. An after-school teacher/tutor's job is to meet students wherever they are and provide them with strategies and help so they can succeed academically in school.
  3. After-school teachers/tutors must possess a passion for helping students learn and have the knowledge and skills to help students find new ways to look at difficult skills and concepts to become master students of learning.
  4. As a teacher/tutor, you must have patience, as many students you work with will have trouble understanding the content you are trying to help them with. You must also have a positive attitude and know ways to motivate students when they become frustrated by material they do not understand.


As an after school teacher/tutor, your main responsibility is to help student learn, reviewing content with them, explaining how to solve problems and checking completed work. A teacher/tutor may also help students develop study skills and organization techniques to help improve their academic performance at all subject levels.

This may be done in a one-on-one or group setting. Teachers/Tutors must often keep reports on students and share those reports with the executive director, program coordinator, staff, teachers, and parents. In addition to the academic component, teachers/tutors are responsible for supervising groups of students, providing discipline and serving as a role model and mentor.


The schedule for an after school teacher/tutor varies by position. Volunteer tutors may require as little as one hour a week, while paid positions as teacher/tutor may require as much as 6 or 12 hours a week. All work will typically be completed on weekdays during the regular school year, usually between the hours of 3 pm and 6 pm.

Vehicle Operator (part time)

Performance Initiatives, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to educating and mentoring others by using athletics, fitness and education as tools to achieve optimum health, while developing positive character traits.

Performance Initiatives, Inc. is an organization that focuses on working with children and youth.

We take the safety and wellbeing of these children and youth very seriously. All staff members and volunteers must complete and pass a background check and Safe Sport training before beginning work at PI.

Vehicle operator is under the direct supervision of the Performance Initiatives Director. The driver operates a 12 or 15 passenger van vehicle to transport children ages 7-18 years of age where necessary and performs other transportation services in accordance with established policy and procedures.

Hours are M-F 1:30pm – 5:30pm


  1. Transport children in the following capacities:
    - After school pick up and drop off where needed – Drive children and youth to off-site PI programs as needed/scheduled – Drive children and youth home after program hours as needed 2. Checks the operating system of the van daily to insure safe operating conditions of the brakes, steering, lights, horn, windshield wipers, first aid equipment, and fire extinguisher.
  2. Maintains order and discipline of the vehicle.
  3. Enforce and maintain passenger rules and safety procedures at all times.
  4. Must be able to obtain First Aid and CPR certification.
  5. Performs all other duties as assigned.


  1. Be familiar with surrounding area and able to read a map.


  1. Must be 25 years of age or older with a clean driving record.
  2. Education: High school diploma or GED required.
  3. Must have good oral, written, and auditory skills, to effectively communicate with persons receiving services and other stakeholders.
  4. Must have a valid Georgia Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and current insurance.
  5. pass drug testing prior to hiring and randomly during employment: PI is a drug free/smoke free organization.


  1. Working Conditions: Subject to outdoor weather conditions.
  2. Equipment Operation: Ability to operate a 15 passenger van safely.
  3. Satisfactory driving record.
  4. Pass a background check and drug screening.

$12-15.00 per hour (based on experience)


Position considered open until filled. Background investigation and drug screening will be required. This job description is a temporary guide, subject to change at the discretion of management. The incumbent may be required to perform any other related duties as required by the supervisor.

CrossFit Coach (part time)

We’re looking to add more coaches to our team!

Performance Initiatives is accepting applications for the position of Part-Time Coach (Less than 10 classes per week).

We are seeking dedicated professionals who are truly passionate about helping others on and off the coaching floor. Applicants must genuinely love fitness and be capable and effective group leaders.

Performance Initiatives is a not-for-profit 501 c3 organization founded in 2005 in Savannah, Georgia. We work hand in hand with Coastal Empire Weightlifting and CrossFit Savannah. The purpose of the organization is to educate and mentor youth and adults mentally, physically, and spiritually by using athletics and fitness, with Olympic-style weight lifting as the base. 

We would love to hire an experienced coach who is confident in their abilities for a diverse population and focused on community development.


  1. High School Diploma/GED
  2. CrossFit coaches will need a current CrossFit Level 1
  3. CPR/AED within 6 months
  4. Background check

Additional preference may be given to those with:

  1. Extensive coaching experience
  2. Current CrossFit Level 2 or 3+
  3. Degrees, certification, or coursework in related fields
  4. Detail oriented
  5. Open Availability

Since 2005, Performance Initiatives has been serving transient and undeserved youth ages 7 through college, using Olympic Weightlifting as a tool to encourage youth to reach their potential by excelling on and off the platform. The PI programs have produced international, Pan-American, and American champions ranging from 12 years of age and up, many breaking records along the way. Off the platform, the program has seen multiple college scholarships awarded, doctorate degrees in medicine, improved school attendance, improved grades, and overall increased engagement in school and the community.

We do this because of our passion to educate and mentor youth and adults mentally, physically and spiritually by using athletics and fitness, with olympic-style weight lifting as the base.
